In the afternoon of June 28, more than 80 experts from the International Seabed Authority, the Sub-Committee of African and Neighboring Island States of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, the international organization "Deep Ocean Stewardship Initiative (DOSI)", and Duke University of the United States, etc., discussed the relevant practices of sustainable utilization of deep sea resources and deep sea ecological environment protection in an "online + offline" manner.

Kouadio Affian, Chairman of the Sub-Committee of African and Neighboring Island States of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, said that China and Africa had many areas of common concern in the protection and utilization of deep sea, and looked forward to further deepening practical cooperation in the vast deep sea field.

Zhang Zhanhai, Chairman of China Ocean Mineral Resources R & D Association (COMRA), said that in order to maintain the sustainability of marine ecosystems and the long-term utilization of marine resources by human beings, it is necessary to seek balance and coordination between marine protection and utilization.

It is reported that the forum consists of two keynote speeches, namely, "Sustainable Utilization of Deep Sea Resources" and "Deep Sea Ecological Environment Protection". Nine experts made wonderful reports on the research and development of environment-friendly mining equipment, environmental management plans in typical deep sea areas, and capacity building in the international seabed field, showing the latest progress in the field of "Deep Sea Protection and Utilization".

Based on the principles of scientific guidance, protection priority and win-win cooperation, the forum realizes the common protection and sustainable utilization of deep-sea resources by rallying the consensus of domestic and foreign government agencies, academia, industry and all sectors of society.
