On January 24, 2024, the 25th Annual Meeting of the Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans (POGO) opened.
During the annual meeting, a signing ceremony was held for the POGO Western Pacific Regional Office. The "Agreement on the Hosting of the Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans (POGO) Western Pacific Regional Office" was signed at the ceremony. The signing of this agreement marks the official establishment of POGO's first regional office at the Ocean Decade International Cooperation Center.
The POGO Western Pacific Regional Office plans to, by focusing on the Western Pacific region, enhance its cooperative exchanges in the domains of marine observation, forecasting, disaster prevention and mitigation, and response to global climate change; it will initiate and implement large-scale scientific plans and projects for the Ocean Decade to jointly boost the sustainable development of the ocean.
The POGO Western Pacific Regional Office is poised to robustly advance its collaborative research in the domain of marine observation within the Western Pacific region, thereby offering high-quality public service products encompassing marine observation and forecasting to all stakeholders. Concurrently, it will catalyze the formation of a network for sharing information on marine disaster prevention and mitigation within the region.
Furthermore, the POGO Western Pacific Regional Office will enhance its cooperative exchanges with other international entities and organize international training programs in the domain of marine observation and forecasting on a regular basis.
